Dr Gill SH Walker - Clinical PsychologistPsychotherapist & Supervisor

About me

Hi, I’m Gill. Your story matters, not just what's happening now, but how it's been shaped over time. Together we begin understanding your story, and from there, learn new ways of responding to create meaningful change.

Insightful, considered, and highly experienced personalised support

With more than 25 years’ experience, I offer doctorate-level psychological care across a broad range of complex presentations, always with a clear, practical, and grounded approach.

Originally from the UK, I also lived in a number of European countries, before settling in Australia many years ago. These experiences have given me a personal understanding of transition, change, and building a life in a new place. Outside of my work, I’m a wife, and mum to teenagers. I enjoy sculpting as a creative outlet, something that keeps me connected to the importance of balance and perspective in everyday life.

I believe effective support comes from both professional expertise and support that feels human, relatable, and focused on what will actually help you move forward

My philosophy as a practitioner

Approach, mindset & experience

Approach

My approach as a clinical psychologist is gentle, collaborative, and responsive to your individual style. I believe in working with who you are, and I encourage you to tell me openly if something doesn’t feel right for you. You are the expert on your own life and experiences; my role is to bring psychological knowledge, tools, and evidence-based strategies to support you. Alongside this gentleness, I am also pragmatic. People often seek therapy for clarity and feedback, so I aim to be thoughtful yet concise, offering clear reflections and practical insights when helpful.

Working together

At times, there are moments when you need space to discover your own answers. Equally, I can help identify options when things feel stuck or when patterns are difficult to see from within. I view my role as supporting meaningful change - you have invited me to explore challenges with you, and I walk alongside you as you navigate them. This includes providing resources, guidance, and a steady presence while you build confidence and capacity to move forward independently.

How we work together

Our work together may involve exploring past experiences or focusing on present-day strategies depending on what best supports your goals. You guide the process through your needs, preferences, and lived experience, while I draw on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help map a way forward. Through careful listening and attunement to your personal style, therapy aims to strengthen your trust in your own perspective and support you in becoming more fully yourself.

Mindset

My mindset is calm, respectful, and non-judgemental. Modern life is fast-paced and often performance-driven and many people feel pressure to meet expectations that don’t always align with their values. Therapy can provide space to step back from these pressures and consider what truly matters to you. I believe everyone is entitled to feel comfortable in who they are and to cultivate a sense of contentment and wellbeing.

Practical wellbeing tools

Where appropriate, I integrate practical strategies that support emotional resilience and life satisfaction. These may draw on positive psychology, mindfulness, and wellbeing research, including approaches such as gratitude, savouring, and reflective practices. The aim is to help you develop tools you can use in everyday life, supporting sustainable change beyond the therapy space.

Assessments & reports

I offer psychological, cognitive, psychometric assessment (IQ, literacy, executive function, personality, psycho-pathology) to clarify how a person presents, and how best to support them. These assessments and reports are available for funding (NDIS, DSP, CTP, PLD, SIRA, PI), career and self-development, identifying support needs, and offering an independent second opinion and case review, including child, adolescent and family assessments for child protection and custody matters; and medicolegal reports.

Insight & INPSYGHT

Inpsyght: The meaning behind the name

The name Inpsyght (pronounced Insight) originated when I abbreviated Independent Psychologist Gill to create INPSYG. Evolving this into a name inspired by insight felt both intuitive and fitting, as insight lies at the heart of psychological therapy.

As a clinical psychologist, my work focuses on helping people develop deeper understanding - of themselves, their experiences, and the challenges they face. The concept of insight captures this process perfectly.

Why insight matters in psychology and therapy

Insight is often experienced as a moment of clarity when a new understanding emerges. People frequently describe this as an “aha moment,” accompanied by feelings of relief, certainty, or renewed direction.

In psychological therapy, insight does not always come from applying familiar strategies or relying on past experiences. Instead, it often develops through new interpretations of information and how those interpretations connect to a person’s life.

Sometimes the solution is not about changing the problem itself, but about changing the way the problem is viewed.

How insight develops

When we reflect on a difficulty or goal, we may begin to notice how thinking patterns, assumptions, or overlooked details have shaped our understanding. These factors can create a sense of being stuck or at an impasse.

Insight becomes possible when these obstacles are reconsidered and reinterpreted. By shifting perspective, new possibilities can emerge and the way forward becomes clearer.

Therapy at INPSYGHT

  • Clarify challenges
  • Identify patterns that may be limiting progress
  • Reframe difficulties in a more helpful way
  • Highlight strengths and opportunities for change

Through this process, therapy helps remove barriers that may have been influencing your approach so far, allowing a clearer and more confident path forward.
