Difficulties in your life are explored, and the obstacles resolved by viewing things through a theory or model of how we function, to help you achieve insightful interpretations of how to improve your mental health.
Tailored to your individual style
Each session is tailored to your individual style. Some people want space to reflect and explore. Others want clear feedback, practical tools and a defined direction. Gill works responsively, and she'll take her cues from you. Together we incorporate new information and make interpretations during talking therapy. Across multiple appointments together we work with some or all of these specific focused psychological strategies.
A series of focused appointments
Treatment typically runs across a series of appointments. Early sessions focus on understanding your situation and what's brought you here. As the work progresses, sessions become more focused on insight, pattern recognition and practical change. Gill draws from a broad toolbox of psychological approaches, selecting strategies that fit your specific goals rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method.
You don't need a diagnosis to begin
Sometimes reduced mental health can be recognised as a diagnosable condition, according to the DSM-5-TR (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision), although not everyone who might benefit from talking therapy, necessarily has a diagnosis. Even the 'worried well' can gain from talking therapy because it can often help you, and prevent a condition developing.
Sometimes the goal is simply to feel clearer, more grounded, or better equipped to handle what life is throwing at you.
What to expect, step by step
I'm here to help children, adolescents, adults & couples reflect on the difficulties they face. This could be difficulties with how you feel, in your relationships or that impact how you think, ultimately lowering your mental health.

Initial consultation with Gill
The first session is a chance to talk through what's brought you here - your current situation, your history, and what you're hoping to get from therapy. Gill will start building a picture of your circumstances and begin working with you in a way that's tailored to your individual needs and style. You don't need to prepare anything in advance.

Ongoing sessions with Gill
As the work progresses, sessions become more focused - developing insight, working through patterns, and building practical strategies you can apply between appointments. You'll always have a clear sense of what you're working on and why.

Review
Progress in therapy isn't always linear, but over time most people notice they feel clearer, less overwhelmed and more able to respond to challenges without being derailed by them. Gill tracks your progress across sessions and adjusts the approach where needed - you'll always have a sense of what you're working on and why.
Psychological strategies used
Sessions are thoughtful, focused, and practical, with gentle guidance when needed, working toward clarity and useful outcomes so you feel a clear sense of direction. Depending on your individualised needs, Gill uses a range of strategies to support you.
These psychological strategies are eligible for Medicare rebates when accessed under a Mental Health Care Plan, which involves communication and collaboration between your psychologist and referring GP to support your ongoing care.
In-person & telehealth therapy
I offer flexible appointment times, including evening appointments for your convenience. By far the easiest way is to book an appointment through my online booking system, which shows real-time availability of appointments.
In clinic: We’re based in the heart of the Northern Beaches at Manly, easily reached via public transport. Our address is 6/21 Sydney Road, Manly NSW 2095.

Home visits: Home visits are available by special arrangement and travel time is charged at the standard APS / NDIS fee on top of the standard fee charges. Please contact me here to discuss.
Telehealth videoconferencing: Join your video session from a private, quiet space where you are alone. Please ensure your device is positioned on a stable surface, that you are seated, and you have a reliable internet connection. You will be required to initiate the call at your scheduled time. Please note that I will not be able to conduct the session if you are walking, or are in a public space.
Phone/voice only: I can only offer a session via phone if we have explored all the options and there are no alternatives. In this instance you are required to initiate the call.
